President Tina Mattison's Message

Tina Mattison

August 2024

Hello everyone!

I’m truly honored to become the 40th NACM President. I recently reviewed the board accomplishments of each past President, and it is very humbling. I know that I have some very large shoes to fill. Thanks again to Rick Pierce for being our coach and leader for NACM’s board year of ’23-’24.

NACM had an exciting past year. Our conference in Orange County in February had 386 attendees, even though California was hit with a severe storm system. It had some impacts on travel, but it did provide us with a nice water feature in the lobby of the hotel (and in some of the conference spaces!)

And this past conference, we had 864 attendees, even though travel was again impacted. This time due to technology. Southwest seemed to be the only airline that did well. The conference was a hit for those who were able to make it.

I want to welcome our new Board members, Melinda Brooks (Ohio), Courtney Whiteside (Missouri), and Whitney Freese (Washington). These individuals will serve in our three-year director positions. We also want to welcome back Jeff Chapple (Missouri), who was selected to fill a director position for a one-year term. I also want to acknowledge our newly elected Secretary/Treasurer, Roger Rand (Oregon). I’m looking forward to working with each of the board members, as well as with the past Presidents. It will be an amazing year!

At mid-year, we had 40 virtual attendees and at our annual conference, we had 52. I want us to continue to find ways to connect to our virtual attendees. At mid-year, we had past President Norman Meyer and then President Rick Pierce join the members virtually in a special Zoom room, which provided a very nice bonus for the attendees.

The Membership Committee knocked it out of the park this past year, thanks to Cheryl Stone and Kristie Collier. They instituted a “new member onboarding call” which occurs quarterly. This gives new members an insight into member benefits, as well as the plethora of committees they can join. We have seen as many as 70 new members join this call and the feedback has been all positive.

The theme for our conferences this past year has been Leadership. We all know that leadership is not merely holding a title or position of authority. Everyone visiting this website is a leader in their organization AND a leader for NACM. I thank you for your service in both arenas! I’m excited to continue the legacy that has been left before me.

Tina

NACM President, 2024-2025
